A Different Angle on the Issue of Newbie Questions

From: Paul (pgonyea@earthlink.net) | Date: 2004-05-30 18:35:08 UTC
Sending newbies to the same set of FAQs all of the time is
efficient, HOWEVER, someone may have a better or more creative
approach than the official one posted. Granted, basics are basics,
but different views & ideas are going to make for a wider and more
interesting variety of letterboxes.

As a newbie, I've gotten great encouragement from 2 more experienced
letterboxers who don't hesitate to answer basics, but go beyond the
standard answer to help me come up with more creative and
challenging boxes. And because of that, I'm having more fun, and I'm
beginning to receive heartfelt e-mails of appreciation for my boxes
from hunters. That in turn, encourages me to keep going and develop
more.

Time invested in newbies will pay off in a richer quality of boxes
for you to hunt down the road. Having worked for years as a manager
who focuses on training new hires, my payoff comes back as having
built a great team and a more enjoyable job. The same principle is
true here.

Paul,

I'd say that part of the simple fact that some people are
teachers and some are not. And those that are not just won't or can't.
Trust me, it's hard to learn the right and wrongs things, the do's and
don'ts, that what's acceptable and what's not when no one will tell you
until after you've tried something.

Thanks for sharing your words Paul, can't wait till we can get
back to San Francisco and search for your boxes!
